Our History
The Neshaminy Federation of Teacher’s charter was applied for and granted on May 2nd, 1966 from the American Federation of Teachers. Three years later, the Neshaminy Federation of Teachers applied for membership to the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO. The AFL-CIO “recognized the true principles of collective bargaining giving full recognition to the desire of working men and women in choosing an organization best suited to their needs and wishes.”
For fifty years, the Neshaminy Federation of Teachers, Local 1417, has advocated for educators and students alike.
The Neshaminy Federation of Teachers currently represents over 600 members working in Neshaminy schools. The NFT negotiates collective bargaining agreements, assists members with work-related concerns, fights for equitable and fair working conditions, and coordinates a host of committees that promote education, community service, social justice, and wellness. The Neshaminy Federation of Teachers also promotes democracy in education, ensuring building representatives and executive board members represent the needs, concerns, and voices of all members.
Through these efforts, the NFT works to provide the best quality education for Neshaminy students.
